Our Founding President, Mr. The first step of Berna Yılmaz's dream was approved by the Council of Higher Education. The establishment process of Istanbul Kent University was started.
Do political party leaders or their spouses who withdraw from active political life take the responsibility as civil society volunteers?
If the country in question were the United States or England, we could answer this question with "Yes" based on the first examples that come to mind.
The family foundations established by former US President Bill Clinton and former British Prime Minister Tony Blair have created billions of dollars in funds with their work in the fields of environment, health, women's empowerment and elimination of interregional inequalities.
I don't remember an application worth mentioning in Turkey...
Berna Yılmaz, the wife of former Motherland Party (ANAP) Chairman Mesut Yılmaz, who sat on the prime minister's seat 3 times in 2 years between 1991 and 1999, will perhaps be our first example in this field.
Berna Yılmaz, who has been working on issues related to the disabled since her years as a student at Boğaziçi University, opens a university as a non-governmental volunteer.
The Yılmaz Family had established the Accessible Education Foundation (ENEV) 3 years ago. The first project of ENEV will be “Istanbul Kent University” (IKU).
The Council of Higher Education (YÖK) announced to the public its positive opinion on "Istanbul Metropol University", of which Berna Yılmaz is the Chairman of the Board of Trustees, at its 4th General Assembly Meeting (March 14).
In this process, the name of the university was changed in order to overcome the name similarity with Medipol University; Instead of “Metropol”, the expression “City” was used.
Yılmaz's university will be able to start operating in the 2016-2017 academic year, with the decision of the Council of Ministers published in the Official Gazette.
In the first year, it will accept 600 students to its campus in Kağıthane.
THERE WILL BE WOMEN IN MANAGEMENT
IKU opens a new window to our education world in terms of both its institutional structure and academic content.
WILL NOT OBSTACLE EDUCATION
The characteristics of the board of trustees coincide with the founding purpose of IKU.
There is only one male member in the board of trustees, which consists of 7 people: Former ANAP deputies Atty. Suhan Ozkan...
Özkan is also the father of tenor Selim Özkan, who continued his music education in Lausanne until his master's degree, despite being diagnosed with eye cancer when he was 6 months old.
Saime Toptan, the chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Education and Solidarity Foundation for the Disabled of Turkey (ÖZEV) and the lawyer wife of former Parliament Speaker Köksal Toptan, is also joining the board of trustees.
Other members are from the family's close circle:
Ceren Yılmaz is the wife of Emir Hasan Yılmaz, the youngest son of the Yılmaz couple. Gülcan Erten is the head of private office in Yılmaz's political life. İrem Aşçıoğlu is the bride of their family friend, Vedat Aşçıoğlu, owner of Aşçıoğlu İnşaat.
The general secretary is Mehmet Yavuz Yılmaz, his eldest son, who insisted that Berna Yılmaz establish a foundation.
Yılmaz brothers are also mobilizing their financial means for this university project.
Excavation was at the forefront of the works tendered by IGA (Istanbul Grand Airport), the executive and concessionist company established by the Cengiz-Mapa-Limak-Kolin-Kalyon consortium, which undertook the Istanbul 3rd airport project.
Among the excavation contractors, there are Orkun Group, owned by İlhan Karadeniz, who undertakes the largest part of the work, as well as CFS Istanbul Investment and Efe Worldwide Logistics companies, of which Yılmaz brothers are shareholders.
